"Hi! Here's a picture of my dog (above), a stray rescued a little over a year ago. Her name is Zoe and she will be 2 this year. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me!" Sara is so right when she asks, "How can you not love those ears?!")

Katie and Greg Thompson tell us: "We rescued Bailey (above) from the Michigan Humane Society in May 2004. She has adjusted well and lives a very good life as shown here with her life jacket on... Since we have adopted her she has completed beginning obedience training and has obtained her Therapy dog certificate through the Southeast Michigan Obedience Training Club. Soon we will be sharing Bailey's love with people in hospitals and nursing homes."

"This is Charlie, found roaming the streets of LA, put in a shelter, and finally adopted by an owner who realized it was love at first sight.
Part poodle, and who knows what else, Charlie was what was called "trauma deaf", having lived a scary life, he basically blocked out all sounds. Today, he has totally recovered his hearing! He was very timid and scared of everything when he was found, but now he's Lord of The Manor and living large. Here's a photo of him six months after rescue! "

This is not a toy. This is a real animal - Pepper - rescued by a reader. Ronita "Joey" Long, Pepper's owner, wrote:"Our ferret, Chili, was getting lonely. Instead of buying a friend from a pet store we did the "right" thing and got a ferret from a rescue shelter. www.motorcityferrets.org in Hazel Park has many ferrets that need homes. Pepper was 3-1/2 years old when we got her. Chili and she get along great. We take them out with their harnesses on their leashes, which really freaks people out. They ask us what kind of dog they are. Sheesh! Ferrets are great pets. They use litter boxes, are friendly and love to explore. Many, many more ferrets could use good homes.

OUR JAX PIC IS MISSING - PLEASE SEND ANOTHER, OWNERS!
This handsome guy (above) is Jaxson (Jax), a German shorthair pointer who was adopted from a rescue late last year by reader Ed. He had been shot in the snout and needed hernia and lower leg surgery. His proud owner says, "He is a wonderful dog!" Jaxson's pretty lucky to have been adopted by such a caring person.
From Brooke Pringle (and Greg Schemers): "I am attaching a picture of Otis (age 1 yr 10 mo) and Samson (age 2), both adoptees to our home from the Detroit site of the Michigan Humane Society. Samson came to us in December of 2002, while Otis was adopted 4 months later in April 2003. Samson (on the right) is something of a celebrity -- despite the sad story, his rescue (along with his mom and 12 little brothers and sisters) was featured on Animal Planet's TV show "Animal Cops". In the picture I am sending, they are definitely taking it easy after a hard day of chasing squirrels in the yard! Notice they take up the whole couch!!
These two have brought Greg and me tons of love and happiness, and we sure don't know what we'd do without them!! To anyone thinking of adopting, we would say just take a look into their eyes and ask yourself how could you pass that up??? :)

From Asher Cornelius: "This little guy (above), along with his brothers and sisters, was found abandoned in the woods just before Christmas by a friend of mine from the Leukemia Society. She knew I was thinking about getting a dog so I decided to try him out. Well, it took all of 5 minutes for me to know I was keeping him. Now we're inseparable. He's about 7-8 weeks old and is a Labrador -something mix. His name is Yukon and the vet said he'll grow up to be a big healthy adorable dog. He was the best Christmas present ever!"

Meghan Minish tells us: "I found Rivers (above) - named after Rivers Cuomo from the band Weezer - at the local pound as a Sweetest Day present for my fiance. Rivers was the only dog that did not immediatley jump and bark. He just stood there with a very telling story behind his eyes. He is very well traveled as he had to live with my mom and dad in NY for a while. The best thing about him is that he was OK with that - and the moment he saw us, it was like he never left our side. Although he is a nerd at heart, he is our nerd and I could not ask for a better dog."

Amanda Smith, proud owner of Sam and Woody (right) writes: "Here is a photo of Sam and Woody. While they are full grown now, I wanted to post a picture that would show what they looked like when we brought them home. Who could pass up two such adorable puppies? Sam (the larger of the two) was 3 months when we picked him up at the Detroit Pound. He was very scared and skinny (only 18 lbs.). Now he weighs in at 110 lbs and he LOVES to snuggle. Woody was 6 weeks when we chose him at the Michigan Humane Society of Detroit. He was there with 7 brothers and sisters. We picked him because he licked me the entire time I held him. They are best of friends with each other as well as with us. We are one big happy family, and I don't know what I would do without them!"

This is Peach (above), Molly and Nick's cat. Molly tells us, "Peach was an East Lansing farm cat who spent more time hiding from mice than catching them. As the runt of the litter, Peach never had it easy. Constantly being chased and teased by other farm animals lead Peach to hide in the rafters of the barn, not coming out for weeks. Finally, Peach was discovered, rescued and now lives in a loving home where she is able to master the arts of napping, getting fat, and yoga."

This is the lovely Janey (above), a tri-colored beagle that the Koch family rescued from BREW (Beagle Rescue, Education and Welfare) in August of 2003. "We had just lost our beagle, Bella, to Lymphoma at the age of 4. We're not sure of Janey's background, but she has been a GREAT dog!" Janey's owner wants us to know that "BREW is a fantastic organization - their website is www.brewbeagles.org ."
Meet Frisky (below)). Her 14-year old owner, Caitlyn, tells us: "This bundle of fluff was found in a box outside a pet store, along with other kittens. The owner of the pet store was unable to sell the kittens because they were not from a breeder and the owner had no way of knowing how their health was. The kittens were given to a customer who found loving homes for the kittens. Frisky is now 19 years old and is all black from head to toe! She is such a sweetie and loads of fun to play with."
